Benoy wins Merit Award AT DFA Design For Asia Awards 2021

Recognises and celebrates projects of design excellence globally

Benoy is delighted to be announced as winner of DFA Design for Asia Awards 2021, one of Asia’s most prestigious design awards honouring design projects globally that have influenced and have had meaningful impact in Asia.

Benoy was proclaimed Merit Award Winner for Retail and Showroom Spaces for Sanya CDF Mall II.

Sanya CDF Mall Phase II is a pioneering, mixed-use commercial development located in Haitang Bay in Sanya, also known as the “national coast”. The location is a stunning tourist destination in China, offering world-class yachting, luxury five-star hotels, retail and entertainment all amidst lush natural surroundings.

Benoy led the masterplanning and architecture design for Phase II of the development, closely collaborating with the client China International Travel Service (CITS). The vision was to create a world-class destination in Haitang Bay combining retail, entertainment, and leisure into a comprehensive and transformative development – the first and only destination of this type in Hainan province.

The project features a large variety of lush greenery and blue waterways, celebrating the surrounding landscape and multi-layered environments. The 32,000-square-meter mixed-use, retail-led space features a “porous and multi-layered environment,” with clusters of small-scale buildings that create a series of indoor and outdoor spaces for entertainment and retail programming. Buildings are connected by a succession of elevated walkways and bridges.

As with all its projects, Benoy employed creative design solutions which are culturally relevant, human-centric and sustainable, to ensure commercial success as well as social and environmental sustainability.

Working closely with the client, we created a unique destination integrating mixed-use, leisure, and retail, whilst harmonizing with the beautiful environment. The design’s innovative roof canopy replicates the indigenous pearls native to Hainan, creating an iconic visual impact. Sanya CDF Mall II has boosted the local landscape with a new world-class experience, successfully delivering benefits for our client and the local community.”

Celebrating the outstanding design projects awarded under the DFA Design for Asia Awards, the DFA Design For Asia 2021 Presentation Ceremony will be held on 1^st December at the new M+ Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong, one of the world’s largest and most ambitious cultural projects.
