A renovation along two of Chaoyang’s busiest streets
Chaoyang Joy City in Beijing’s Chaoyang District, sits directly above Qingnian Lu metro station. Grandjoy Holdings Group appointed Benoy to renovate the shop-front façades along the ground and first-floor street frontage, to reflect the new calibre of brands operating inside.

3,000m²
A single architectural language across multiple tenants
The design organises the renovated frontage around a continuous arcade of “door frame” portals, each calibrated to the brand behind it. The arcade reads as one piece of architecture across the streetscape, while the individual frames hold the identity of each retailer within. Protruding aluminium panels project from the façade at intervals, giving the elevation depth and shadow without compromising the unity of the run.
Resolving the operational layer
The renovation also concealed the mall’s operational infrastructure where it had previously crowded the elevation. Fan units, gas shafts, advertising lighting and canopy lights have been integrated into the new façade and lit at night as part of the scheme’s evening character rather than as visual interruptions.
