A city within a city, at the heart of western China
Chengdu IFS sts at the prime junction of Hong Xing Road and Dacisi Road, the most prominent intersection in Chengdu’s core business district, adjacent to the city’s largest pedestrian shopping street and overlooking the historic Daci Temple. The first of three IFS developments Benoy would go onto deliver for Wharf Holdings across western and central China, in Chongqing and Changsha. Part of a wider mixed-use development exceeding 760,000m² in total, Benoy’s scope of 436,300m² encompassed masterplanning, the retail podium, interiors and wayfinding, with the office towers designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates.

Amplifying the spirit of the street
The masterplan is organised around pedestrian movement and street life, with the retail podium conceived as a continuous extension of Chengdu’s commercial fabric. Along the main façade on Hong Xing Road, feature ‘pop-out’ boxes at terrace level house concept stores, creating an active architectural edge that engages the street and draws people upward through the development. The podium roof garden, connecting all four towers above the retail levels, provides a landscaped urban sanctuary above one of the city’s busiest intersections.
Rooted in place
An Antiquity Plaza on the first floor, exposes and interprets the Tang dynasty water supply system and Song dynasty horse-drawn carriage boulevards discovered beneath the site, a layer of civic memory embedded within a contemporary commercial development, and a reminder that this part of Chengdu has been a centre of trade and culture for centuries. In 2016, Chengdu IFS received the ICSC VIVA Best-of-the-Best Design and Development Award, the first Chinese commercial property project to receive the title.
