A complex rooted in Chongqing’s topography and culture
Chongqing Yubei Wuyue Plaza is the first commercial project in the Chongqing Liangjiang International Business Center, a national development initiative in the Yubei District’s Liangjiang New Area. The 441,700m² mixed-use complex occupies a prominent site adjacent to Central Park, one of Asia’s largest urban parks, and is served directly by Metro Lines 5 and 10 via underground connecting passages.

Five ground floors in a mountainous city
Chongqing is defined by its dramatic topography, a city built across mountains and river valleys, known locally as the “8D Magic City” for its extraordinary vertical urbanism. The design takes this as its primary reference, levering the site’s 18-metre east-west height difference to create a “five ground floors” section with multiple entry levels at different elevations, each with its own relationship to the surrounding city. The concept, joyfully dancing in the mountainous city, was developed from the unique urban fabric and informed by Wu Guanzhong’s painting Chongqing, which depicts the layered character of local settlement life.
Themed spaces and a diverse mix of uses
The interior commercial space is organised across five levels, with the main atrium designed to capture Chongqing’s distinctive night skyline. Themed zones, including “Chongqing Wharf” and “Starry Kitchen”, give distinct identity to different parts of the complex, while the full tenant mix spans supermarkets, cinemas, fitness centres, international brands, lifestyle stores, restaurants, and children’s stores. Outdoor commercial streets and rooftop spaces extend the offer beyond the building envelope, making use of the plaza’s prime park-edge position.
