A sculptural canopy as the threshold
The Singapore Oceanarium is part of the Resorts World Sentosa 2.0 transformation. Benoy was appointed to design a new entrance canopy that would give the Oceanarium a defined sense of arrival, aligned with the wider RWS brand programme. The canopy operates as the threshold between the open-air resort and the marine experience inside.

‘The Waves’: form, material and palette
The canopy is named The Waves, with its sculptural form echoing ocean swells. It integrates with the ribbed arches of the Oceanarium’s main hall, so that the entrance and the building it leads to read as one architectural composition rather than as a building with an applied gate. The fluid geometry is realised in layered materials, with a colour palette drawn from the sea, the sky and the maritime heritage of Keppel Harbour.

Functional and atmospheric layers
Beyond its sculptural role, the canopy provides sheltered connectivity for arriving visitors, passive shading against Singapore’s equatorial sun, and integrated lighting that holds the entrance’s presence into the evening.

An independent gateway within a wider masterplan
The canopy is operationally independent of the Oceanarium itself yet integrated into the wider Resorts World Sentosa masterplan. The design works simultaneously as architecture and as brand identity, where the form, palette and material language all carry the marine reference that defines the experience inside. It functions as a defined arrival point for the Oceanarium today and as a permanent feature of the resort’s design language as it continues to evolve.
