A phased refurbishment and extension of a Hongqiao CBD complex
The Place is a 270,00m² mixed-use development in Hongqiao, one of Shanghai’s four central business districts, comprising three Grade-A office towers and a shopping mall positioned at the gateway to the Yangtze River Delta. Formerly known as Parkson Shanghai Hongqiao and subsequently City Center, the complex was acquired by Treasury China Trust and comprehensively redeveloped across three phases. Benoy was appointed across all phases, delivering facade redesign, interior design, and new-build architecture.

Three phases of transformation
Phase I transformed the existing Parkson department store and its two adjoining office towers, redesigning the facade and refreshing the interior to reposition the asset within Hongqiao’s competitive commercial market. Phase II introduced The Promenade at street level: a curated collection of dining and lifestyle offers alongside an events plaza, activating the public realm and extending the development’s appeal beyond office hours. Phase III delivered the new-build retail podium and a Grade-A office tower, targeting LEED Gold certification. Within the new shopping centre, generous atriums bring spatial quality and natural light to the retail levels. A rooftop Sky Farm extends the experience upward, introducing green space to the top of the scheme.
