Reinterpreting a cold-weather identity for the California coast
Canada Goose’s first California store required a design that could hold the tension between a cold-weather identity and a Southern California setting. The store is located within a diverse retail environment, with immediate neighbours including works by Richard Serra, Henry Moore, and Isamu Noguchi.

Warmth within the cold
A lighter, nature-inspired palette replaces the darker tones of Canada Goose’s colder-climate stores, while the exterior’s slatted white oak cladding carries through into a baffled wood ceiling inside, creating a sense of enclosure and shelter. Calacatta marble and white quartz carry the visual language of snow and ice, while wood provides the counterweight of Canadian warmth. Venetian plaster walls and terrazzo floors ground the interior in material quality, with timber zoning defining the men’s, women’s and children’s apparel areas. A soft archway with a warm ambient glow marks the threshold into the preparation zone at the rear, providing a considered transition between the public and operational areas of the store.
The Snow Room
At the front of the store, directly in sight from the semi-closed window display, the Snow Room, the first of its kind in the United States, simulates a daily snowstorm at temperatures reaching -10°F, replicating the conditions of Churchill, Manitoba, the polar bear capital of the world. It is the experiential centrepiece of the store and brings the brand’s sustainability values and cultural commitments to life through the physical retail environment.
