A 200m office tower in Chengdu’s Tianfu New Area CBD
The headquarters of the Western Equity Investment Fund in Chengdu’s Tianfu New Area, combines a 200m office tower with a three-storey commercial podium. The project sits at the gateway between the existing city centre and the southward expansion of the Tianfu CBD, with direct connections to the underground metro at Tianfu Business District Station and frontages onto the Wangshan Corridor and the Ningbo Road green leisure walking street.
A diamond-inspired tower in a Chengdu spatial language
The tower’s facade takes its geometry from an uncut diamond mid-polishing, a reference to the Fund’s own commercial philosophy in which value is realised through accumulated work. Beneath the facade, the commercial podium translates the traditional Chinese spatial vocabulary of Chengdu’s streets, lanes, gardens and courtyards into a series of pedestrian-scale interior environments. A semi-transparent podium facade dissolves the boundary between inside and outside, allowing the public realm of the surrounding boulevards to extend directly into the building at ground level.
Public space carried into the height of the tower
A sixth-floor sky lobby acts as a vertical community square, with an aerial sculpture park, lookout platform, footpaths and a bridge park give the building’s working population shared space at height. Within the upper floors of the tower, an elevated swimming pool, sculpture park, shared hall and rooftop pocket park continue this principle, treating the office floors as a sequence of varied environments.
