A retail destination above Hong Kong’s busiest transit interchange
Above the Causeway Bay MTR station, Hysan Place is a 17-storey vertical mall at the heart of Hong Kong’s prime retail district, developed by Hysan Development Company. Benoy was appointed as interior retail architect and retail planning consultant, responsible for the interior design and graphic design across all 17 retail levels, two internal atria and event spaces.

The interior combines bold organic geometries with a monochrome palette, recycled timber flooring sourced from reclaimed teak stocks over 200 years old, and street-art-inspired graphics, giving Hysan Place a youthful yet sophisticated identity. Low-energy light sources, water-saving devices and a state-of-the-art ventilation system underpin the design throughout. Hysan Place was the first shopping centre in Hong Kong and in Greater China to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
A journey of discovery
The circulation strategy encourages vertical exploration: lower floors house open-store formats grouped by merchandise and target market, while levels 11 to 15 offer a dining oasis finished in calming wood tones. Each zone centres on a light-filled atrium that draws visitors upward, boosts retailer visibility and creates a distinct, spacious atmosphere within a relatively compact footprint.
