Batam’s first superblock, designed for the region
Pakuwon Batam will transform a long, narrow 12.4-hectare site on Batam Island into a landmark mixed-use development, the island’s first and largest superblock. Designed in collaboration with Airmas Asri, the 286,000m2 development integrates a shopping centre, luxury hotels, serviced apartments and branded residences. The wave-inspired design draws on Batam’s identity as a free trade zone and its position at the intersection of the Indonesian archipelago and Singapore.

A modern twist on tropical charm
The design introduces multiple ‘ground’ levels and a ‘super-floor’ concept to generate horizontal and vertical movement across the length of the site, encouraging exploration and improving retail visibility. Indonesia’s rich cuisine is celebrated through a River of Flavours marketplace, with a focus on seafood, while indoor-outdoor spaces foster the culture of gathering central to Indonesian social life. A skybridge, the first on Batam, will connect the hotels, serviced apartments and branded residences, with a pool deck offering views of the Singapore skyline.
Built for the climate
Located 30 metres above sea level, the design prioritises performance in Batam’s coastal environment. Solar panels, rainwater harvesting and greywater systems reduce operational impact, while aluminium composite panels and energy-efficient curtain walls provide long-term durability. The building’s orientation minimises east–west sun exposure to reduce heat gain, and lush landscaping throughout provides shading and reduces heat reemission.
