Commercial strategy and interiors for a luxury gateway to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coastline.

Red Sea International Airport is the gateway to Red Sea Global’s luxury tourism destination on Saudi Arabia’s west coast. Foster + Partners commissioned Benoy’s Commercial Strategy & Advisory team to develop the commercial strategy and planning for the terminal, aligning the retail and amenity offer to the vision for the airport and wider resort. Benoy was subsequently appointed by the client as delivery interior architects, with a scope covering the retail and commercial interiors, VIP lounges and passenger-facing spaces throughout the terminal. The airport is designed to serve one million travellers per year by 2030 and is the Middle East’s first carbon-neutral airport, powered entirely by on-site renewable energy.

A calm palette of locally sourced materials, including rammed earth, natural stone and terrazzo, responds to the surrounding desert landscape. Commercial and VIP lounges offer amenities including a welcome bar, digital ‘click and deliver’ retail and a dining mezzanine overlooking the runway. On arrival, passengers encounter a Welcome Centre with a sculptural ceiling referencing the sand dunes beyond.

Balancing functionality and hospitality

The hospitality-led language is balanced against the airport’s security and operational requirements. Fluted glass panels maintain privacy around immigration zones without blocking natural light. Natural stone walls and terrazzo floors withstand heavy footfall and luggage.
