A members’ centrepiece for the new Bahrain Marina

The Bahrain Marina Yacht Club is the members’ centrepiece within Bahrain Marina, a large mixed-use waterfront development on Manama’s eastern coastline. Benoy was commissioned by Bahrain Marina Development Company to deliver architecture and interior design for the clubhouse as part of a broader scope across the wider Bahrain Marina development, which also includes a public retail and entertainment district, a five-star hotel, water villas and a residential quarter.

Designed from a motor yacht

The yacht club is set deliberately apart from the architectural language of the surrounding neighbourhood, which draws on the sanbūq, the wooden pearling vessel that sustained Bahrain’s economy for centuries. The clubhouse takes its cue from the motor yacht: sculptural, angular and finished in black, set against the lower-scaled coral limestone of the wider development. Positioned at the threshold between city and ocean, the building is conceived as a bridge between the two, drawing both into a single point of arrival. Integrated LED lighting carries the building’s presence into the evening.

The members’ programme

Across the clubhouse, a lounge, restaurant, members’ bar, cigar lounge and changing facilities are calibrated for boat owners and the resident community of Bahrain Marina. With direct access onto the marina deck, the yacht club anchors the members-only realm of the wider development, distinct from the public retail and entertainment district and from the residential quarters.
