A new chapter for aviation in Hong Kong

Hong Kong International Airport has long maintained its reputation as one of the world’s most efficiently managed and designed aviation hubs. Benoy was pointed by Hong Kong Airport Authority to enhance the passenger experience across three interior areas while avoiding disruption to ongoing operations.

Three areas of enhancement

The Terminal 1 Annex expanded the landside offer with a new M&G Hall, additional check-in facilities and baggage claim belts. Additionally, the East Hall Expansion extended the airside zone to include a dynamic play area and a landscaped viewing deck. The Departures Kerb was also widened with expanded drop-off areas and new canopies to provide shelter.

Enhancing the passenger experience

The design builds on the existing architectural language to deliver a more vibrant and fluid passenger experience, upgrading aesthetics and functionality in equal measure. Benoy’s retail planning expertise informed the commercial strategy for the East Hall, increasing F&B and retail capacity in the expanded departure and arrival areas. The expansion allows the airport to serve 58.5 million passengers annually and operate 280 retail outlets across the terminal.
