A reimagined urban retail village

Character meets performance

Starfield Anseong adds to the retail landscape of one of South Korea’s fastest-growing regions. Designed for Shinsegae as a cluster of linked buildings with unique identities, the architecture and interiors express a sense of permanence, exuberance and whimsy, creating a primary shopping and leisure destination for Anseong and the wider southern Gyeonggi region.

An urban village experience

Located just over an hour’s drive from Seoul, the brownfield site originally housed large warehouse facilities surrounded by areas of woodland and agriculture. We preserved the landscaped areas and intentionally set the buildings within a series of public gardens, creating an urban village that feels integrated with the city. The result is the largest retail destination in the southern Gyeonggi region, serving four surrounding high-growth cities, Pyeongtaek, Anseong, Asan and Jincheon, with 280 tenants across 287,000m2.

A social destination

At the heart of the site, a large piazza fronts the main building . a primarily social, people-centric space for programmed activities and events throughout the year. For the interiors, geometric floors and reflective ceiling details combine with triple-height atriums illuminated by skylights to create a feeling of expansiveness and intrigue.
